Gilbert High Gathers to Celebrate Class of 2025

Gilbert High students, family, and staff gathered on Wednesday, April 16th at GHS for the school’s Honor Awards Reception. The Honor Awards is a celebration acknowledging senior students that have been offered scholarships to continue their education as they work toward their post-secondary goals. It acknowledges not only their current accomplishments, but also the successes GHS staff knows are to come in their future. A smaller and more intimate setting allows attendees to learn more about awardees’ future goals before their formal graduation in late May.
Each senior is called to the podium and introduced by name, announcing the school they will be attending next year and what they will be studying. Then, students from College Board’s Recognition Programs, GHS’s National Merit Commended students, and National Merit Finalists were recognized with an announcement of the top 10, 5, 2, and 1% of the 2025 graduating class, rounding out the evening.
Students, faculty, and educational institutions disclosed student scholarships to the counseling office throughout the first semester to be recognized during this event. The military, in-state and out-of-state universities, community colleges, trade and technical schools, private donors, various companies, and memorial scholarships have all recognized and awarded scholarships to GHS seniors. Students earned anywhere from $500-$300,000 in funding to continue their education.
Though the students' plans varied, from going to the military to playing sports at a D1 university to attending welding school, Wednesday’s reception was a way to collectively and individually recognize all the hard work the Class of 2025 has put in to attain these goals and prepare for their futures.
Autumn Sobol, a counselor at Gilbert High, reflects on how the reception is designed to showcase the school’s seniors. “We try to make this reception as celebratory as we can each year to show our seniors that we recognize the hard work they’ve put in during their time at Gilbert High. By providing a light breakfast for the attendees, having them wear the gear of the school they will be attending, and giving them an opportunity to spend time with friends and family, we design the event to be a fun time for them to reflect on their accomplishments and hard work.”
As of the Honor Awards Reception, the total amount of scholarship money earned by the GHS Class of 2025 is over $13 million. Students have continued to be awarded new scholarships since the event.
