International Baccalaureate
Welcome to the Gilbert High School IB Program!
Mission
The International Baccalaureate® aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end, the organization works with schools, governments, and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.
These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

What is the IB Diploma?
The Diploma Programme (DP) curriculum is made up of six subject groups and the DP core, comprising Theory of Knowledge (TOK), creativity, activity, service (CAS), and the Extended Essay. Through the Diploma Programme (DP) core, students reflect on the nature of knowledge, complete independent research, and undertake a project that often involves community service. This is a two-year program for students to begin their junior year.
Students earn the prestigious IB Diploma upon effective completion of the core components and passing the six subject group courses and exams.
What is the IB Career Programme?
The Career-related Programme (CP) was specifically developed for students who wish to engage in career-related learning while gaining transferable and lifelong skills in applied knowledge, critical thinking, communication, and cross-cultural engagement. The CP core focuses on service learning, second language development, the Personal and Professional Skills course, and the Reflective Project. This is a two-year program for students to begin their junior year.
Students earn the newest IB honor, the IB Career Certificate, upon effective completion of its core components, completing a career pathway certification (through a CTE pathway) and passing at least two IB subject group courses and exams.
Who is the IB Student?
IB students are curious, caring, and trade school or college-bound. They live to learn, are interested in what connects the classroom to the world, and want to travel the world and help others. Someone who wants to join the IB program should not be afraid to challenge themselves and share what inspires them. IB students have all kinds of different interests and talents and want to use them to make our world a better place.
