Health and Wellness Program:

Gilbert High School has been funded by the Arizona Governor’s Office of Youth, Faith, and Family to implement a school wide Health and Wellness Program. The intention of the program is to prevent the use of youth alcohol, marijuana, and prescription drugs as well as promote positive self-esteem and mental health. We will be offering a wide variety of different programming for students and families to participate in that surrounds the mission of the program. If you have any additional questions please feel free to contact Robert Ramos, Intervention Specialist at (480) 497-0177 extension 160.

Parent Empowerment Nights:

Gilbert High School Health and Wellness Program will be offering free parent workshops on a wide variety of different topics that are facing our students. These Parent Empowerment Nights will be offered throughout the school year. We had our first parent night on Tuesday, September 25 on the topic of Vaping and how to address sensitive topics with teens. Please look for further information through Infinite Campus email.

Life Skills Training:

The Life Skills Training High School Program is being implemented in all Freshman Physical Education Courses at Gilbert High School in the AVID classroom on Fridays. This curriculum presents students to start thinking about the following different topics:

Create and value lifelong health

Making decisions

Taking Healthy Risks

Understand media influences

Manage emotions

Improve family communications

Develop healthy relationships

Meals to Grow:

Gilbert High School Health and Wellness Program has partnered with Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank to provide 500 weekend food bags to an entire school in Tempe. Every Tuesday students, staff, and parents at GHS pack bags of food for students who are at-risk for weekend food insecurity. Student’s use their lunch hour to prepare these bags and help with other management of this program. All parents are welcome to participate every Tuesday during 4th and 5th hour lunch in Tiger Hall.

Mentorship Program:

Gilbert High School Health and Wellness Program has also partnered with Gilbert and Sonoma Ranch Elementary for GHS students to provide mentorship within the classroom as well as spending time during lunch recess. GHS student use their lunch periods to visit their assigned school. Gilbert Elementary lunch time visits happen on Monday and Sonoma Ranch Elementary happen on Thursday during the student lunch hour. If your student is interested in participating please have them reach out to Mr. Ramos in the counseling office.

Activities:

Teen Drinking and Risk Factors: Students participated in a presentation from Community Bridges regarding the risk of underage consumption of alcohol. The presenters gave students the opportunity to gain an understanding of what it may feel like when an individual is intoxicated with their fatal vision goggles.

Drug Trends Jeopardy: Students also participated in an interactive presentation regarding the current drug trends and how to avoid them. This presentation was made by Community Bridges

Pugs not Drugs: During our annual Homecoming Carnival Frank and Mia, two adorable pugs were the stars of the Health and Wellness Booth. Frank and Mia were there to remind students that there are better (and cuter) thing to do than drugs.
