Ceramic SkullIn the Ceramics I class, students created spirit animal pinch pots out of clay.  Students were instructed to think of an animal that possesses qualities similar to themselves or just an animal that they relate to or simply like.  They made this animal using a pinch pot technique. This is a handbuilding technique of forming a small bowl shape by pushing your thumb into a ball of clay and then squeezing on the outside with your fingers while rotating the clay.  This is one of several handbuilding techniques that the students in Ceramics I will be learning this semester. Creating pinch pots provides students with fundamental clay skills they will build upon next semester when they will throw on the potter’s wheel. Stop by the Library to see more student work on display!
